Jamie Oliver, most famous for his ‘Naked Chef’ series launched another cook book. Well, one might think is this really something we need but ’5 ingredients’ is surprisingly fresh, unconventional and inspiring. And the conclusion is: 5 ingredients are enough to prepare an outstanding meal.
Last week, Penguin Random House South Africa launched the book at Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Melrose Arch. The evening was a wonderful success as guests from Cape Town and Johannesburg gathered to celebrate the launch of Jamie Oliver’s brand new cookbook.
There to introduce each of the several canapes served at the launch was Group Head Chef, Shane Smit who spoke passionately about his experience with the new recipes and his delight in being part of Jamie’s global food phenomenon. Chef Shane has worked in several international five-star establishments, including Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Oxford, UK.
Over the years, the Jamie Oliver brand has established a reputation as the essential cooking aid in the kitchen. The Naked Chef continues to encourage his millions of followers to cook easier and eat better. 5 Ingredients: Quick & Easy Food delivers beyond all expectation and cuts through all the excess to produce a very simple and delicious meal that is on the table as quickly as possible, and with very little fuss.
The evening’s highlight was the spectacular food and wine. The canape spread ranged from Prosciutto & Celeriac Salad, Pappa Al Pomodoro Soup and Creamy Welsh Mussels, to Aubergine Penne Arrabbiata, Sizzling Steak and Hot Smoked Salmon Pasta. Set in the beautiful backdrop of the private dining room of the restaurant designed by South Africa’s Jack de Wet (Head of International Design and Development at Jamie Oliver international), the rustic and industrial Jozi-gold inspired design captured the unique essence of the event.
Guests were treated to Spier Wine Farm’s most awarded Creative Block range. The range is made with 2, 3 or 5 varietals from specifically selected vineyard blocks. The Rhone-style Number 3 blend created from Shiraz, Mourvedré and Viognier, and the Bordeaux-style red Number 5 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot paired beautifully with the canapes.
