Celebrating South Africa’s high fashion

SEPTEMBER 2014 – South African fashion was proudly and lavishly celebrated during this season’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town.

With access to all the fashion shows, we made sure to be in the front row at our favourite designer’s runway showcases. Vibrant, bright and eclectic garments graced the runway and we could not help but gasp at the beautiful pieces from some of South Africa’s most famous fashion designers, some of who feature in our Jubilee Edition no. 10.

The new spring/summer 2015/16 collections that stood out most for Opulent Living included the Japanese woodblock prints of the 17th Century inspired Gavin Rajah collection and KLûK CGDT’s Studio 54 themed collection.

The garments of the Gavin Rajah couture collection, called A FLOATING WORLD: UKIYO-E, were jaw-dropping with their vibrant fuchsia hues and bold statements and accessories. The fashion show also proved to be one of the most exciting with its great grand finale of the exquisite bride striding down the runway with an unexpected red veil trailing behind her. To conclude the fantastic show an explosion of red and pink confetti set lose above the runway as the models did their final march down the runway.

Malcolm Kluk and Christian Gabriel Du Toit of KLûK CGDT invited us as their VIP guests along with other media to attend the launch and showcase of their brand new flagship store. Situated in the trendy Bree Street, the spanking new emporium was definitely not a let-down. Fez capped butlers served sweets and treats as we toured the modern and stunning three-storey store and viewed live installations of models dressed in the couture collection. The collection boasted feminine cuts, bold colours and diverse patterns and textures, perfect for summer.

In the middle of the Mercedes-Benz Fahion Week, Opulent Living together with Mercedes-Benz hosted its very first Mercedes-Benz Opulent Living StyleNight. The night was a celebration of style, beauty, design and dream cars. Besides celebrating all things finer in life, the event also celebrated the Opulent Living Jubilee Edition no. 10 and brought to life the featured photo extravaganza of South Africa’s top 10 most iconic fashion designers. Hosted at the African Pride Crystal Towers Hotel and Spa, the Mercedes-Benz Opulent Living StyleNight resulted in a huge success!
