SEPTEMBER 1014 – Last week Thursday, 4 September, Opulent Living was fortunate to be invited exclusively by BMW South Africa to experience the brand’s very new BMW X4.
All the details of the event were kept very hush-hush and were only unfolded as the day progressed, which added to the excitement of the whole BMW experience. We, along with a small group of lifestyle media experts, were instructed to meet the brand’s team at the Cape Town International Airport valet parking, whereby we would be collected and transferred to the next meeting point.
Excitedly, we obeyed the instructions and were thrilled to be informed that from the valet parking we were being shuttled in the car brand’s finest vehicles to The Pot Luck Club in the Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock, for a decadent lunch. Upon arrival at The Old Biscuit Mill, we gathered our first glimpse of the new BMW X edition, the BMW X4. Sparkling, sauve, and sporty, yet big and bold, the cars lined up looked magnificent. Before noticing anything further of the new cars, we made our way up to the widely popular and world-renowned restaurant.
An array of Asian inspired dishes were ordered and our taste buds were tantalised from one dish to the next. The food was superb! Once all courses were completed and digested, each media expert, including Opulent Living were guided to their very own new car and given a route to drive to experience all the driving qualities the vehicle has to offer.
The car is a unique concept that embodies all the sportiness of a typical coupé, yet is distinctive and also embraces elegance. The design of the X4 has sportier features than the X3, it is longer and lower, and includes better driving dynamics. Driving through the Franschhoek Pass, this was evident, especially with the car’s performance control features demonstrating the distribution of the engine, breaking controls, and intervening engine output.
There are many great news features designed into the car, including variable sport steering which is more direct and allows for an agile driving style, to 8-speed steptronic sport transmission, suspension specially marched to meet the needs of the car and driver, new generation diesel engines, lightweight construction, and much more, which can be found on the car’s website.
Following the drive through the vineyards, the group was privy to an overnight stay in true opulent style at the Cape Grace Hotel. Graced with a divine dinner prepared by Chef Malika Van Reenen and a short presentation of the new X generation motor vehicle, Opulent Living could not have asked to be spoiled more at a national media launch of a fabulous new car.
Find out more about the vehicle, which is set to launch later this month, on their website.
