The refashioning of Cape Grace’s Bascule bar boasts one of the largest whisky collections in the Southern Hemisphere.

True to its name, the newly refurbished Bascule bar, which originates from the French word for ‘balance’, epitomises a perfect symmetry of relaxed sophistication.

A longtime favorite meeting place for whisky connoisseurs, Cape Town society and hotel guests alike; the bar stocks a global whisky collection of more than 500 whiskies from nearly every producing region, including Scotland, Ireland, USA and Canada. An almost equally impressive selection of the Cape’s finest wines is on offer by Bascule Vinothèque.

Named after the Bascule Bridge at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (the only one of its kind in South Africa), a dramatic portrait of a bascule bridge from the famous Clarke Street Bridge in Chicago, adorns the focus wall of the lounge area.

Bascule’s enviable setting, alongside the Victoria & Alfred’s beautiful yacht basin, radiates Cape Town’s colourful energy and atmosphere. A mouthwatering Tapas menu, created by Executive Chef Malika van Reenen, is served for lunch and dinner, either on the sundrenched deck outside or inside in the more intimate bar area.

Bascule’s elite whisky club offers members the opportunity to own private whisky bins for personalized consumption in understated elegance.
